This year, our N2–K2 children explored sustainability through immersive experiences and creative advocacy. K2 visited the Singapore Art Museum for the Think! Contemporary Project, where local artists’ upcycled works inspired dialogue about environmental care. They created advocacy posters on water sustainability from repurposed materials, proudly sharing them with N2 and K1 peers.
N2 connected with nature at Wildlings’ Natural Playground, while K1 visited the Sustainable Singapore Gallery to learn about local green initiatives. At home, K2 extended their learning by transforming household recyclables into personal art pieces, which they later used in class to create upcycled artworks advocating for care of the Earth.
Across the centre, children engaged in meaningful sustainability projects. For Earth Day, N1 crafted water droplets promoting conservation, N2 designed electricity-saving posters, K1 built a cityscape highlighting recycling, and K2 created outfits and DIY watering cans from recyclables. These activities allowed children to explore creativity, collaboration, and sustainable thinking in a hands-on, celebratory way.
Leading up to the SSDB Walkathon, children created upcycled bookmarks, coasters, and stationery holders, which were sold to raise funds for charity, highlighting both sustainability and social responsibility.
Collaborative projects further deepened learning. K1 and K2 drew inspiration from their Northshore neighbourhood, using recycled materials to create miniature community scenes reflecting everyday objects like buildings, trees, and vehicles. K2 added donated fabric scraps to decorate the structures, symbolizing unity, growth, and shared responsibility. The project culminated in the SAM Think! Contemporary Preschool exhibition, where children proudly presented their work as young advocates for sustainability.
Through these experiences, children developed environmental awareness, engaged creatively with recycled materials, and cultivated a sense of agency in caring for the world. Their journey demonstrates that advocacy, collaboration, and mindful creativity can inspire meaningful action, even at the preschool level.
