Promoting Healthy Living - Introduction to Hydroponics

As part of our healthy eating project, the children began their exciting journey into hydroponics – growing plants without soil. The teacher introduced the K1 children to what hydroponics is, how it works, and why it is an important and healthy way of growing food.

In end July 2025, the children started with seeding Kangkong and Xiao Bai Cai. The children carefully placed the seeds, ensuring they were secure.

To help the seeds sprout, the children made sure the sponges were always soaked with water so that the plants could get the nutrients they needed before transplantation. They observed their seedlings daily, noticing the little changes as the seeds started to grow.

On 7th August 2025, the children experienced the next stage of the process – transplanting their seedlings into Styrofoam and moving them into the hydroponics system. This allowed the plants to continue growing sustainably and healthily.

Through this hands-on experience, the children not only learned about the science behind hydroponics but also developed patience, care, and responsibility while discovering the joy of growing their very own food.
