LITTLE GREEN FINGERS

Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) programme

LITTLE GREEN FINGERS

In line with Singapore’s aim to protect our environment and conserve the flora and fauna around us, our SSDB theme for the year 2023 is Little Green Fingers.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. Today marks the first day that our N2 children planted their very own vegetables under the guidance of our teachers and a gardener at the nursery farm near our center.

They learned about how vegetables and plants need sunlight, water and soil in order to grow during a lesson in class.

The partnership with the gardener really benefitted the children during the programme.

With his vast experience in gardening, the children got to learn from him as they experienced transferring and planting the baby mustard greens at the nursery farm near our center.

The children’s excitement and interest were evident during the hands-on activity as they planted the baby mustard greens. They all enjoyed themselves and said that they were eager to come again the next day.

In the subsequent weeks, they will care for the vegetables they planted. Through this experience, they will have a better appreciation for the food that they consume and also learn the importance of not wasting food. Furthermore, we believe that this is a meaningful and experiential outdoor activity.

We can’t wait to see the children harvest the vegetables that they have grown with the help of the gardener. The children will also get to bring home their vegetables so that their families can enjoy having meals with the vegetables they planted!

Best Regards,

Cheng San Seletar SPARKLETOTS SSDB committee
