Appeciating Our Pioneer Generations at My First Skool @ Block 140 Serangoon North

12th - 19th June: Donation Drive for Elderly

A donation drive was held in the school. All families and children participated. The response was overwhelming and we received much more than what was required. It was heart-warming to see parents role modelling positive values - compassion and love through their kind gestures. We manage to collect a substantial amount of food and toiletries for the 120 elderly at Kheng Chiew Happy Lodge.

21st June: Packing of Donations

Children from the K2 class helped to pack the supplies collected into goodie bags. They were thrilled to be part of this meaningful process.

23rd June: Visit to Kheng Chiew Happy Lodge

Children and teachers from the K1 class visited Kheng Chiew Happy Lodge. Prior to the visit the teachers and children have prepared hard for the visit, thus everyone was looking forward!

The elderly were excited and happy to see these young visitors! The K1 children and teachers had a great bonding time with the elderly. Children did a fantastic performance for the elderly.

Next, children gave out goodie bags to the elderly at Kheng Chiew Happy Lodge. The goodie bags contained a variety of biscuits, drinks and toiletries.

It was a memorable day for the children and teachers. Here are some responses from the children and teachers with regards to the visit.

K1 Teacher,

Nithya - “It was great to see children show care and love for the elderly. It was an impactful project.”

K1 Child, Zoey -“I give the old uncle goodie bag. I like to do kind things.”

17th August: Racial Harmony Day

A collaboration with our pioneer generation

Introduction & Greetings

To start the event, teachers greeted children and families in the four main languages - English, Chinese, Tamil & Malay.

National Anthem

The whole school sang the naional anthem to recognise that racial harmony was crucial in ensuring a cohesive nation.

Speech by our principal, Miss Wendy Ong

Our principal, Miss Wendy Ong shared about the Start Small Dream Big project to the families and children present. She emphasized on our theme - Appreciating Our Pioneer Generation. Children also related to their trip to Kheng Chiew Happy Lodge.

Sharing by Grandparents

We were honoured to invite two grandparents to have a short sharing session with the children. Mr Lim, grandfather of K2 child, did an interesting overview of the origins of Racial Harmony and its importance. He prepared short stories and useful visuals to help children further understand. It was a great experience for the children.

Madam Diana, grandmother of K1 child, shared on her fun times as a child living in the past Singapore. She talked about the differences in play and her home environment in the olden days.

Performance by K2 Children

We were pleased to have the children from K2 to perform dances in songs of three different languages - Rasa Sayang, Chanmak Challo and Tong Yao.

Peformance by Teachers

Teachers also performed songs of three languages to display cultural diversity. Children and families had an enjoyable time watching Chinese teachers dance to an Indian song, while Indian teachers danced to a Chinese song.

Appreciation for Grandparents

Our principal, Miss Wendy Ong presented the grandparents a token of appreciation for their contribution to the Start Small Dream Big Event. We are grateful to have such supportive grandparents.

Closure of event

At the end of our celebration, the Start Small Dream Big hat was given out to all children. It was a great gift to remind them about the values learnt and experienced in this project, as well as a representation of unity to embrace our Start Small Dream Big vision - “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
