We Can Do It, So Can You!

We held our second part of our Start Small Dream Big project - Charity Art Exhibition together with the Dumpling Festival Celebration on 25 May 2019.

While many children were busy attending classes or having outings with their family on a Saturday morning, our preschoolers reported to school for a good cause - raising funds for the needy students under The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund with their masterpieces and the selling of dumplings made by our parent/grandparent volunteers.

Preparations for this fund-raising project started way back in March. We were thankful to have the support from our teachers, volunteers, parent volunteers and external professional art teacher to guide our children in their artwork.

The N1s used almost five hours to complete their Colourful Sculpture.

The N2s used close to 10 hours to complete their Pulp Painting.

The different groups of K1s used a day to complete their Leaf Print Collage, Lotus Flower Collage, Plum Blossom and Decoupage Collage.

For Dun Huang Caisson, the K2s used over 10 hours to complete each of their masterpiece.

We were also glad that we have supportive parents, grandparents and even a great-grandmother to take time out to wrap the rice dumplings for sale a couple of days prior to the celebration. Children had an insight of how a rice dumpling is being made, the ingredients used and why is the festival being celebrated when they went for a tour during the production.

The celebration started with a bang from performances by children of all levels.

Thereafter, we had all children and parents to watch a slide presentation on the journey leading to this event.

A sharing session by the parent volunteers were also held before the commencement of the art exhibition.

Children were eagerly bringing their parents and grandparents to view their masterpieces that they had put in a lot of time and effort in completing when the emcees announced that the exhibition has started. Beaming faces were seen everywhere in the school hall.

Towards the end of the exhibition, parents were allowed to bid from a starting price for their desired artwork and the artwork will go home with the highest bidder at the end of the event.

We want to thank everyone for their contributions in order to make this meaningful event a successful one! No effort is too small because ‘No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!’

On a side note, we were delighted that we managed to raise $11, 058 - an amount surpassing our target! It’s only possible with the time and effort of everyone involved! Three cheers to all!
