The President’s Project: Wishing Well and Fountain of Sharing Project

THK Child Development Centre @Membina is embarking on the Start Small, Dream Big Project, we have launched our Wishing Well…Fountain of “Sharing”, “Caring” & “Loving” with the help and support of the children and families in the centre. The children and their families were informed about the project and its goal, which is to inculcate good values in our children and encourage them to give back to the society. The main objective of our project is to help the underprivileged children and families through food donations. This project also provides opportunities for the children to have experiential-learning by allowing them to place the donated provisions to our Wishing Well…Fountain of “Sharing”, “Caring” & “Loving”. These donations will be given to the chosen families under the care of THK FSC @Tanjong Pagar. Thus, all children and their families were involved in the Wishing Well journey.

To create meaningful learning experiences, we have integrated the project in the children’s daily activities and experiences in our centre.

As part of the National Day celebration, we used opportunities to inculcate the value of giving and sharing by having a simple, yet very meaningful picnic in the classrooms. The children volunteered to share Halal and healthy food with the rest of their classmates. Indeed, they enjoyed the picnic and learnt something significant at the same time. Through this activity, they were able to experience giving and sharing, and realise how good it feels when you share and give willingly.

They learned to recite the Chinese poem, “Helping Each Other” which talks about helping one another to grow a flower. They had a short discussion about the poem and about the importance of helping. In addition to the activity, they made a beautiful artwork ~a handprint formed into a heart, which symbolises a helping hand. They even had a Show-and-Tell of their masterpiece to proudly show what they have learnt about the importance of helping.

Furthermore, the children listened to different stories that imparted good values. The follow-up activities done in each class were engaging and relevant to the ultimate goals of our project. These activities such as art and craft, song and dance performances, poem recitations, role-plays and video-showings did instil the values of sharing, caring and loving.

Truly, the children are never too young to contribute to the community. “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.” – Max Lucado

Let’s start small and dream big!
