Star Learners @ Woodlands: Working Hand in Hand with our Community and Family (1)

For Star Learners @ Woodlands, we focused on working hand in hand with our community and family. By doing so, we would want to inculcate the values of care, humility, kindness and compassion in children. This project encouraged our children to give back to our community and to strengthen the family bonds.

We partnered with Gardens by the Bay to explore and learn more about plants and to save the Earth, through activities planned out for children to do in school and at home. Children attended a virtual workshop organized by Gardens by the Bay, to learn about the plants in Gardens by the Bay and to do DIY planting of various seeds. The plant pots were returned back for children to continue to grow the plants at home.

We also worked with Store@Woodlands to create and distribute care packs to low- income and vulnerable families to give back to our community. Opened in July 2021, it is a “minimart” facility to allow low-income and vulnerable families in Woodlands to shop for free food and other essential items. We made a trip down to Store@Woodlands on 6th June 2022 to deliver the care packs. We had an opportunity to meet and interact with the MP, Ms Mariam Jaafar and her team during our visit there. They brought us around the minimart and gave us a tour. They even presented us with a certificate of participation/appreciation on that day.

These activities are linked to our Star Learners’ HERO profile where children are Happy Learners, Empathic Thinkers, Respectful and Confident Communicators and Open Collaborators.
