This year, the children from Ace @ Work Childcare (Cashew Heights) are embarking on their Start Small, Dream Big (SSDB) journey to make a difference in the community. The school’s slogan is “When life begins, care never ends”, as we believe that care for the people around us can be shown in various ways.
With this, the school conducted its SSDB launch party and Earth Day celebration last 22 April 2022. The children did a fashion walk envisioning selected ACE values (R.I.C2.H. P.A.G.E.S.) and learning dispositions: Courage, Appreciation, Gratitude, Engagement, Sense of wonder & curiosity. Together with their parents, the children created a costume using recyclable materials to represent one ACE value.
In collaboration with Preschool Market, the teachers were able to collect recyclables that were used for the fashion walk. The children, teachers, and parent volunteers created a runway around the school: creating hanging mobiles, walkway, and wall background as decors. The decoration and runway envisioned the various values with the use of upcycled recyclables. This experience allowed children to understand how recyclables can be reused or be made into something else for yet another purpose. They also engaged in identifying types of materials that the recyclables are made of and which items that are common and familiar to them.
It was a fun-filled morning full of smiles, show of creativity, collaboration, and learning for the ACE community.
