As part of the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) initiative themed “Caring for Our Family and Friends,” a special Family Picnic Brunch was successfully held at Marina Barrage, bringing together children and their families for a day filled with purposeful play, bonding, and shared experiences in a natural outdoor setting.
This event was thoughtfully designed to nurture social-emotional development, strengthen family relationships, and create opportunities for children to explore, express, and engage meaningfully with the people closest to them.
Key Event Highlights:
🔍 Parent-Child Challenge Trail
Families completed fun tasks such as physical challenges, nature hunts, riddles, and interactive games by scanning QR codes. The focus was on bonding, teamwork, and shared laughter.
🥪 Sandwich-Making
This hands-on session allowed children to create simple sandwiches alongside their parents. It served as a platform for collaborative activity where children and adults created their own sandwiches, encouraging creativity, conversation, and fine motor skills.
🎨 Free-and-Easy Activity Stations
After structured activities, families explored various open-ended learning stations that promoted self-expression, movement, and togetherness.
Stations included:
🫧 Bubble Blowing Station – Children and families engaged in joyful movement, chasing and popping bubbles in the open air, enhancing gross motor coordination and encouraging spontaneous laughter.
🪁 Kite Decorating & Flying Station – Families decorated their own kites using markers, stickers, and colorful materials. After designing, they took to the field to fly their creations, celebrating creativity and teamwork in motion.
📝 Family Wish Drawing/Writing Station – A quiet, reflective space where children and adults worked together to draw or write a heartfelt wish for their family. Completed wishes were proudly hung on a community Wish Board, creating a collective display of love, hope, and appreciation.
The Marina Barrage outing provided a meaningful opportunity for children to feel secure, valued, and connected, while reinforcing the importance of strong family relationships as the foundation for healthy development. It highlighted key values such as love, care, and appreciation, making it a memorable and impactful milestone in the SSDB journey.
