We began our SSDB 2025 journey with a joyful launch, where the children gathered to create a bright and colourful SSDB banner. Together, we looked back at last year’s visit to Lee Ah Mooi Old Folks Home through photos and videos, sparking meaningful conversations about kindness and how even small actions can bring joy to others. This activity set the tone for our theme “Growing Hearts Across Generations, Together for Tomorrow.”
To help children understand caring and togetherness, we explored the story “Becky Bunny’s Adventures for Life: The Picnic.” Each level took part in a special activity connected to the story:
-
PG children decorated paper “fruit baskets” using their fingerprints.
-
PN and N children designed picnic mats to symbolize family sharing and love.
-
K1 and K2 children created colourful baskets filled with drawings and thoughtful messages.
These activities encouraged the children to think about giving and caring for others in simple but meaningful ways.
Preparing for the Visit
In the days leading up to the visit, the children practiced songs and dances with excitement. They also learned a light workout routine they would teach to the elderly. To add more fun, they prepared simple games such as Balance & Drop, Colour Match, and Fan the Streamers, all designed to bring smiles and laughter. These preparations helped the children build confidence and understand the joy of sharing their talents with others.
Home School Partnerships
Our SSDB journey was made even more special through the support of our families. Parents and children decorated Kindness Stars with messages of love and encouragement. Families also contributed items for the goodie bags including biscuits, Milo sachets, lotion, wet tissues, and small cushions. Some parents even volunteered to join the visit, showing the children that kindness grows stronger when we work together.
The Visit to Lee Ah Mooi Old Folks Home
The day of the visit was filled with excitement and joy. The children performed cheerful songs including 蔬菜歌 (Vegetable Song) and an English Kindness Song ending with the heartfelt words: “Please stay healthy and happy!”They then led the elderly in a simple workout session, played interactive games together, and enjoyed a creative art-and-craft session decorating fans. The visit ended with the children personally handing out goodie bags, sharing smiles, and saying thank you to their elderly friends.
Reflection:
To wrap up the project, the children reflected on their experiences by creating a collective journal. Each class contributed drawings, short messages, and photos of their favourite moments, from singing for the elderly to giving gifts. These reflections reminded the children that even small acts of kindness, like a smile or a song, can brighten someone’s day.
“No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.” With this belief, our SSDB 2025 journey leaves behind a trail of love, hope, and memories that will inspire us to continue building connections for a better tomorrow.
With smiles and love across generations,
