As part of our ongoing Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project titled “Health and Safety First: Caring for Ourselves and Others,” our Nursery, K1, and K2 children participated in a meaningful learning experience at the Red Cross Campsite, where they took part in the Humanitarian Trail.
Throughout the event, the children rotated through a series of interactive stations designed to introduce key concepts such as first aid, emergency preparedness, and clean water awareness. Each station provided hands-on learning that brought their classroom knowledge to life in a real-world context.
At the Safe Steps stations, the children learnt how to respond in situations involving choking and were introduced to the basic steps of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Under the guidance of trained facilitators, they had the opportunity to practise how to assist someone who is choking and try out simple CPR techniques using mannequins. These activities helped the children gain confidence in recognising emergencies and understanding how to respond safely and calmly.
At the Go Bag station, the children explored the contents of an emergency kit. They learnt about the importance of each item—such as bottled water, non-perishable food, a torchlight, first aid supplies, and personal documents—and how these essentials help keep families safe during a disaster.
A highlight of the trail was the Droplet Station, where the children learnt about the importance of clean water. They observed how dirty water is filtered and gained insights into how Singapore manages its water supply during emergencies. This station helped build awareness of hygiene, water conservation, and sustainable living.
This outdoor learning experience served as an important milestone in our SSDB journey. It deepened the children’s understanding of safety, care, and preparedness, while nurturing a greater appreciation for the systems and people that help communities in times of need.
The Humanitarian Trail was an enriching and memorable part of our project, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the children continue their journey of learning and caring.
