The Paw Protectors embarked on an exciting rainforest adventure that culminated in a vibrant and immersive gallery walk, designed to welcome and involve their parents in their learning journey. As part of their project, the children worked together to transform the space into a miniature rainforest, complete with the four distinct layers: emergent, canopy, understory, and forest floor. Each layer was brought to life using a variety of recycled materials, encouraging students to think creatively.
To deepen their understanding and extend the learning beyond the classroom, students collaborated with their parents at home to create informative and colourful posters. These posters, proudly displayed during the gallery walk, highlighted each child’s perspective on being kind, gentle and responsible. This at-home element helped foster a sense of ownership and pride in their work, while strengthening the connection between home and school.
Parents were warmly welcomed to the gallery walk, where they had the opportunity to tour the rainforest exhibit, hear from their children about what they had learned, and celebrate their hard work and creativity. As part of the event, families were also invited to participate in a special interactive activity — creating a “busy book” based on their child’s personal adventure through the rainforest. These handmade books became a collaborative keepsake, filled with drawings, textures, and storytelling elements, capturing the wonder of the rainforest from the child’s point of view.
This meaningful event not only showcased the students’ knowledge and creativity but also highlighted the importance of environmental awareness, and family engagement in education. The Paw Protectors truly brought the rainforest to life — not just as a theme, but as an experience that invited everyone to explore, create, and learn together!
