SSDB 2023: Many Helping Hands, Caring for everyone!

In line with the national efforts to adopt a sustainable lifestyle through recycling, we aim to work with our students and parents to spearhead the effort to make keeping clean and recycling a part of our preschool and community practices.

For the young Pre-Nursery and Pre-Nursery children, we focused on respecting and keeping the environment clean and safe in the May-June inquiry.

For the Nursery One children (3-year-olds) who were doing an inquiry into people around them, we encouraged them to identify community helpers around our neighbourhood and consider how we can show our appreciation for their continued efforts to keep our environment clean and safe.

For the Nursery Two children (4-year-olds) who were doing an inquiry into ‘Animals’, we encouraged them to extend their inquiry into considering how we can all play a part to sustain these animals’ habitats and keep these environments clean and safe for the animals to thrive in.

For the Kindergarten One children (5-year-olds), they were doing an inquiry into the importance of recycling and they will feature their learning and understanding of the inquiry in the SSDB project and consider how else they can do their part to make Singapore cleaner and greener. In addition, they will explore ways that we can work towards making recycling a part of our preschool’s culture.

For the Kindergarten Two children (6-year-olds), this will be a busy year for them as they will be engaged in the preparation for their graduation. For their upcoming inquiry project for their K2 concert, “The Wonder of Lights”, we encouraged and challenged them to utilize sustainable materials (such as recyclables) in their inquiry and to create their concert props and home-learning projects.

We also explored ways to engage the children in excursions or invited external members of the community to understand more about keeping the environment clean & safe / recycling and Singapore’s current goal towards zero waste in the “Zero Waste Masterplan”.
