Pariposa Preschool ‘Kindness 10-days Challenge’ Grand Finale - Kindness Family Carnival 2019

A Kindness project known as the ‘Kindness 10-days Challenge’,aimed in getting the children involved in cleaning up and picking up after themselves at home and in public; was launched in the month of June.

We received positive feedbacks from our parents as they embarked on this Kindness Challenge together with their children.

As a school,we believe that Kindness begins with me (us) at home and if we can inspire and encourage one child at a time to be kind from the comfort of their homes, similar can be done for the environment.

Following the success of our Kindness 10-days challenge at home, it was time to play our part for the environment. Monday,8th July 2019 was a significant day for all of us in Pariposa Preschool as we wrapped up our SSDB project on “Kindness in the Environment.”

A fun-filled carnival in line with the project theme known as the Kindness Family Carnival, was held within the school premises in the presence of different family members, both young and old. This was a great attempt to show how significant a role the environment is to us and we need to do our part to make sure we are kind to it at all times.

The carnival started off with performances by children and the props and costumes used for the song and dance performances were all hand-made and hand-crafted using recycled materials.

Colourful costumes made possible using recyclables!

Other activities that took place during the Kindness Family Carnival include(s):

  • Go Green Fashion show

A great collaboration between parents and their children as they did a fantastic job of creating wonderful costumes fit for a fashion show!

  • Game booths and LIVE workshops

GRAMS Learning Centre, our school’s enrichment vendor provided us with a plain tote bag for decoration in an effort to support BYOB - Bring Your Own Bag initiative.

Remembering what we have learnt from a workshop conducted during the LitterRally event, we decided to re-use the milk cartons provided by the parents to create a coin pouch.

We were very fortunate to work in partnership with NParks- Community in Bloom for the second year as we played host in conducting Two workshops on cultivating ezymes and a propogation self-irrigation planters station.

These two workshops allowed us to have plants both indoor and outdoor and the making of enzymes serves as an excellent household helper and organic fertiliser for plants. These combined efforts helped us realised that we are capable of stopping kitchen waste from polluting our land and meanwhile ease global warming.

A Kindness Paper Quilt Station:

We made a pledge to be kind at all times, wherever and whenever. Parents and children left words of kindness and together we compiled them into a colourful Kindness quilt.

And with that,we conclude our Start Small Dream Big Project 2019. We hope that these simple commitments that reflects our different acts of kindness have what it takes to make a big difference to the environment.

Signing off,

Pariposa Team
