SSDB Presidential Challenge:

Caring for our Family and the Community

Start Small, Dream Big is the presidential challenge that our centre embarks yearly to develop children’s sense of society responsibility, contributing back to the community in their little ways. This year theme is “Together for Tomorrow, Empowering Young Minds.”

This year, we celebrated National Day in both the centre and Botanic Garden. Back in the centre, we celebrated National Day with the Coral Edge residents in the same community. We moved to the beats, doing the GetActive Singapore workout 2025 “Dance of the Nation” in the multi purpose hall. Then Adeline from K1 class raised the Singapore flag for the flag observatory ceremony for the community while the children of different classes sang the national anthem. The children had a good time bonding with the residents in the community. The teachers brought the children for neighourhood walk to observe the national day decoration in the community garden and basketball. The children then returned to the classroom for art and craft. They did stamp painting on drawing paper and pasted the Singapore flag elements, the crescent moon and five stars.

In the Botanic Garden, our parents and children had a blast of fun playing the station games related to the Singapore icons. There were traditional games with a modern twist like Jumpscotch Race (hopscotch), Lion and Chicks (Eagle catches the chicks), as well as innovative games like SG 60, Toss the local dish and HDB Block Stacks. The children had a good bonding time with their parents and teachers.

Through the series of meaningful, well planned activities, the children developed their positive learning disposition of appreciation as they cared and showed love for their family and community. What a good learning experience for our children!
