Learning Vision@NCS :Learning about the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Community through sports and sign language

Our N2 children spent the morning on 6th July to learn first hand about the deaf and hard of hearing community in Singapore. Deaf Sports Association graciously gave a preview of the basic etiquette when approaching and conversing with a deaf person. A knowledgeable morning indeed to both the children and teachers, we learned how to sign alphabets and sports type.

This Term 3, we have weaved together Learning Quest curriculum with the SSDB project for children to use resources and creativity in our project inquiry topic to research, learn more about the deaf community and at the end of 8 weeks, put to use the skills and knowledge we have learned in our Sports Day Carnival to be held at Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall.

This SSDB project has since created ripples to other levels in the centre, not just the Nursery 2. Each child in the centre will celebrate the spirit of giving, at the carnival day itself, 100% proceeds from the sale of child’s ticket will be donated to Deaf Sports Association to help them in their great cause of promoting Deaf sports in Singapore.
