Kindness Tree – Expressing Gratitude Through Art and Words

On Friday, 30th May 2025, the K1 children at Skool4Kidz @ Woodlands Crescent Meadows participated in a heartfelt and creative art experience titled Kindness Tree. As part of our SSDB 2025 project, this activity encouraged the children to express gratitude and appreciation for their loved ones through a combination of visual art and early writing.

The activity began with children using watercolour paints to create a soft, calming background for their artwork. They then used their handprints to form a heart shape, symbolising love and care. Next, they painted the tree trunk and used finger painting techniques to add colourful leaves—bringing their Kindness Tree to life using a variety of art media.

To complete their work, each child wrote a short letter of appreciation to their parents. With teacher support, they used simple but meaningful phrases such as “Thank you for loving me” or “I like when you play with me.” This thoughtful combination of art and writing gave the children an opportunity to reflect on their feelings and communicate them in a tangible way.

The children showed focus, creativity, and genuine care throughout the process. Many were excited to bring their completed Kindness Tree home to share with their families. This activity supported their fine motor skills, language development, and the ability to express emotions through art—deepening their understanding of kindness and the importance of showing appreciation.

The Kindness Tree was a meaningful way for the K1 children to celebrate love and gratitude—beautifully tying in with the spirit of our SSDB 2025 journey.
