Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse @ Newton SSDB Launch Party 2020: A Caring and Inclusive Home for All

Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse @ Newton kicked off our Start Small Dream Big 2020 launch party with the theme “A Caring and Inclusive Home for All.” All the children, from our Dainty Ducklings (Playgroup) to Soaring Eagles (Kindergarten 2), were involved in this year’s SSDB project.

Under the branch of “Caring for the Flora and Fauna in Singapore”, the Playgroup children went out to our garden to water the plants and smell the sweet-smelling flowers. The Lively Ladybirds (N1) children discussed the topic of “Caring for Singapore” through relatable pictures of local food and places. They also focused on the greenery that was seen throughout the places as it was told that Singapore is also known as a Garden City.

Our Brave Bees (N2) focused on the awareness of diversity and inclusivity in Singapore, initiating the discussion with a locally-written story “Just Too Different”. As a school with children of diverse nationalities, the children engaged in a fruitful discussion on how everyone is different and that we should embrace each other for our differences.

Moving broader to caring for our community and the environment, the Dancing Dolphins (K1) children revisited familiar stories “A Water Wally Adventure: The Surprise Visitor” as well as “The Wooloo Friends”. Using these stories as a springboard for discussion, the children shared key areas that they were interested to work on for their SSDB project. The children then filled their SSDB reflection journals with colourful illustrations and writings of their thoughts and ideas.

Our K2 Soaring Eagles engaged in an active discussion on different topics relating to the theme in which the children actively shared their thoughts on marine litter, environment conservation, caring for our community and many more! They were then invited to pen down their thoughts and ideas in the SSDB journal.

All pumped up for our SSDB project, the children will be moving forward with designing of 2D and 3D art pieces which will be sold on an online platform in conjunction with Preschool Market to raise funds for the President’s Challenge.

Do keep a look out for more exciting SSDB updates by Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse @ Newton!
