As part of our ongoing SSDB project “Heritage Hands, Together We Stand”, My First Skool @ AMK08 brought Malay heritage to life through an engaging and meaningful cultural experience. This special event invited parent volunteers to share their knowledge and traditions, helping children explore the richness of Malay culture through stories, games, and music.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as children learned about traditional Malay costumes, marvelling at the intricate patterns and vibrant colours. Our parent volunteer shared the significance of these outfits and helped the children try them on, fostering appreciation and respect for cultural diversity.
Laughter filled the air as children eagerly took part in traditional games such as Cektip and hopscotch. Guided by our parent volunteers, the children experienced the joy of simple kampung-style play — learning teamwork, turn-taking, and the shared joy of movement.
The session continued with a traditional Malay dance segment. Our parent volunteer patiently taught the children the steps and meaning behind the dance. With focus and enthusiasm, the children picked up the rhythm and movements, showing pride as they danced together. The experience built not only their confidence, but also a deeper connection to the culture they were learning about.
This experience helped our children learn more about Malay heritage in a fun and meaningful way. It also remindxed us how valuable it is when families and schools work together to support children’s learning and understanding of different cultures.
