Harmony's Dream

A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”-John Lennon

It all started with a small dream what would bring big smiles. Children are never too young to make a difference to our community. With this in mind, the children and staff of Harmony Child Care and Development Centre, decided to spread some love and cheer to the residents of All Saints Home at Jurong East.

The project began with the K1 and K2 children brainstorming on what could be done for the residents. The children decided that they would present the residents with photo frames made from recycled materials. Their teachers suggested doing a few dance items for the residents to spread love and joy as well. Thus, great efforts were put in to make the photo frames and practise the dance steps for the dance items.

A letter was also sent out to invite parents to contribute food items and toiletries. The children and their families embraced the saying “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something” and contributed as much as they could. It was heart-warming to see the generous contributions made.

On 3rd August, the group of enthusiastic K1 and K2 children made their way to All Saints Home at Jurong East. They looked forward to interacting with the residents of the nursing home. The residents waited in anticipation and beamed widely when they saw the children and teachers.

The children livened up the atmosphere with three dance items accompanied by adorable dance steps. The residents clapped along to the beat too.

Next, the children presented the residents with the photo frames made from recycled materials. Although the children were initially shy, they quickly warmed up and struck up conversations with the residents.

Despite the short visit, it was heartening to see the smiling faces of the residents. Some of the residents were moved to tears when the children held their hands and bid farewell. The children were happy that their efforts were paid off with the appreciative nods and smiles from them. It was an enriching and enjoyable experience for both the children and the residents. In their own special way, the children brought beautiful smiles to the resident’s faces which mirrored their own.

The school appreciated the kind gestures from parent volunteers for their overwhelming donations to the Home. This is one meaningful and successful project the school feels proud to be part of.
