Grandparents were invited to join us in school for a special breakfast/lunch cum planting day. This event was designed to provide meaningful opportunities for the children to strengthen bonds, spend quality time, and create cherished memories with their grandparents.
The session began with a shared meal where grandparents and their grandchildren enjoyed breakfast/lunch together. The children took pride in welcoming their grandparents, guiding them to their seats, and preparing the food together. Conversations flowed naturally as both generations exchanged stories and laughter. It was heartwarming to see the love and connection that filled the room.
After the meal, the families proceeded to the highlight of the event, planting together. Each pair was provided with pots, soil, and money plant cuttings. With excitement and teamwork, they worked side by side to scoop soil, plant the cuttings, and gently water their new plants. The activity not only nurtured plants but also strengthened intergenerational bonds.
At the end of the day, the children surprised their grandparents with a thoughtful handwritten thank-you card, filled with heartfelt messages of appreciation. In addition, grandparents received a packet of seeds from NParks as a token of gratitude and as a symbol of growth, love, and new beginnings.
This meaningful event fostered values of gratitude, empathy, and respect. Most importantly, it allowed both generations to create special memories that will continue to grow just like the plants they nurtured together.
