Growing Grateful Hearts

As part of the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) initiative, our K2 children embarked on a heartwarming journey of gratitude and appreciation. This year, our chosen theme centered around showing love and thankfulness to the most important people in our lives – our family members and friends.

Understanding the value of gratitude is an important part of a child’s emotional and social development. Through this project, the children were encouraged to reflect on the kindness, care, and support they receive daily from their loved ones. To bring these reflections to life, the class worked together to create a “Gratitude Tree” – a beautiful, symbolic display that grew leaf by leaf with messages of appreciation.

Each child wrote heartfelt notes to their mums, dads, grandparents, and friends on colorful leaves. Some messages read, “Thank you, Daddy, for playing with me,” while others shared sentiments like, “I love you, Grandma, for cooking my favorite food.” These simple yet meaningful messages were then proudly hung on the tree, turning it into a vibrant and touching testament to the power of thankfulness.

The process of creating the Gratitude Tree provided opportunities for children to express themselves, understand the importance of kindness, and recognise the efforts of those around them.

Through this SSDB project, our K2 children not only practiced gratitude but also strengthened their bonds with their families and peers. It was a wonderful way to celebrate relationships, nurture empathy, and grow together – just like the leaves on our Gratitude Tree.
