Food: Food Packaging

Children from Learning Vision@NUHS have successfully launched the “Start Small Dream Big” on 7th July 2021. The main theme of this project is, “Food” focusing on two different sub-topics such as Food Waste and Food Packaging. This project aimed to inculcate value towards food and raise awareness about food waste and how packaging and food container has been a big part of the plastic waste in Singapore

Virtual Launched Party

Change starts with me!

To start off their project, K1 children were introduced to different types of food packaging or containers. They observed these containers and find out different types of materials, size and shape.

Children were introduced to plastic waste and how food packaging and food container has been a big part of the plastic waste in Singapore especially during the covid-19 pandemic.

Children also identified other plastic waste that they need to reduce so they will not harm the environment.

Children brought reused food containers to store their sandwiches to reinforce the importance of using plastic food containers to help reduce plastic waste

As a culmination activity to this project, K1 children repurposed food containers and food glass into useful daily items.

K1 children then proceeded creating the repurposed items using various materials. The completed items will then be sold at our “Go Green” Charity Fundraising Event to raise funds that will be donated to organizations supported by President’s Challenge Foundation and NuhKids.

Through this project, children did not only raise funds but also gained an understanding of how these plastic containers and food packaging contributed to the plastic waste in Singapore. Also, children learned that even in their little ways they can play a part in saving the environment.
