Eshkol Valley@PPCC SSDB 2025 "Let's Celebrate SG60 Together" Story #1

Singapore is 60 this year! To mark our country’s’s 60 years of successful nation-building journey and independence, we involved our children in a host of activities which enable them to make meaningful connections among our diverse communities based on our shared values of multiculturalism, boldness, resilience and openness, thus paving the way for a stronger and more harmonious Singapore to build our future together.

We launched our SSDB project: Let’s Celebrate SG60 Together with an intergenerational sharing session to introduce our children to a small but influential ethnic group in Singapore - the Eurasian community to commemorate this year’s Racial Harmony Day on July 21. We were very honoured to have our student’s grandparent - Nan Pat De Souza to share her Eurasian family tree lineage in school together with her granddaughter. Armed with lots of family ancestors photographs and endearing family anecdotes, Nan Pat kept our little ones captivated throughout her sharing session and gave them a better understanding of the Eurasians’ origins in Singapore, their unique heritage and culture. She ended her sharing session by giving them a sweet treat of some Eurasian party food often served at children’s birthday celebrations - making fairy bread and eating wobbly jelly - much to our children’s delight!

What a great bonding time for Nan Pat and her granddaughter sharing their family tree together in school!

Our next “Let’s Celebrate SG60 Together” SSDB project will aim at teaching our children to show care and give back to our community by organising a charity event - ”Majulah Singapura” art and craft exhibition in conjunction with our nation’s 60th birthday celebration on August 8 to support a social cause - REACH E-Flag Day 2025: Walk with Me organised by REACH Community Services to reach out to the least, the lost and the lonely in our community. Stay tuned to our next update!
