Combo Event Tea Session 2018

As part of Start Small Dream Big project, we held a fund-raising event, entitled “Combo Events”. This event includes parents’ workshop, purposeful items exhibition and healthy eating afternoon tea session. All children, parents and teachers were involved. 1.5 months before the events, Ms Christine (ECDA Fellow) met all teachers at a meeting to share her idea of running the parental workshop. Thereafter, teacher worked on the duty they were assigned, and started their preparation work. All details were finalized 2 weeks before the actual day.

Concurrently, two weeks before the event, parents and children made purposeful item from recycled materials, which were on sale on the event day. We gathered 30 pieces of purposeful items. These items include bags, pouches made from old fabric of blankets/clothes, stationery holders made from toilet roll coil, tissue holder from boxes etc.

29th June, 2018 was our ‘big day’. In the morning, children and their Chinese Teachers were busy preparing the food that will be sold that evening. The food items on our menu were chicken satay, avocado sandwich, tuna biscuits and fruit jelly.

The event started at 5:00pm and ended at 6:30pm. The programme began with a short introduction, follow by short highlights of children’s SSDB activities from April to June. Then, parents proceed to their respective workshop area, which were facilitated by the respective class teachers. Topic for PG to N2 was “Tears, tantrums, and temperament” and for the topic for K1 and K2 was “Extending Children’s Learning at Home.” Parents were actively participating in their discussion and sharing. After the workshops, charity time starts. While some parents walked around to choose what purposeful item they would like to purchase and made their donation at the “Donation Counter”, other parents were busy queuing up at our food corner to buy the food set. This event was very successful and we raised $1035 and all proceed will be donated to Children’s Cancer Foundation. We thank all the parents for their presence, cooperation, generosity, kindness and support.
