As part of our collaboration with Jurong West Nursing Home every year, children embarked on a visit on 15 Oct 25 to celebrate Deepavali with the elderly residents.
During PCF Charity Week 2025 with theme on ‘Kindness Begins With Me’, children got to know and understand the meaning of ‘Kindness’ and ‘Charity’ and express their feelings of ‘doing good’ to the community. In support of our project, we also organised a Donation Drive and collected items of necessities for Jurong West Nursing Home during the Charity Week.
At the same time, children also expressed their appreciation of thanks towards people around them. They created ‘Thank You’ messages to Aunties @school as well as to parents who engaged them in class activities.
Parents, children and teachers were all looking forward to visit the elderly residents. Children practised really hard to put up a performance on that day.
Finally, we were excited to march on ….
Children were given opportunities to work on meaningful intergenerational activities with the residents. They created crafts on ‘Oil Lamp’ and each resident was immersed in the process of creation. Parents and children have the opportunity to engage in conversation with the residents. Both children and the residents took pride of the crafts on completion.
It was a heartwarming sight to see that the residents were appreciative of the performance put up by children and parents. It brought joy and laughter to them on this day ahead of Deepavali!
All had a memorable experience as we embarked on this SSDB project ‘Caring Hearts’. Likewise, we hope that the residents enjoyed having us around them!
