Eco-Champions in Action: Sustainability in Our Centre

We are excited to nurture children to become eco-champions by helping them understand that even small actions can make a big difference to the environment.

This month, our focus is on reducing food waste. One meaningful way we introduced this concept was by showing children how leftover fruit peels can be repurposed instead of being thrown away. Children were invited to collect orange peels from home and bring them to school, where they took part in making orange enzymes together.

Through this activity, children learned that food waste can be transformed into something useful. Rather than seeing orange peels as waste, they began to understand how these natural materials can be reused to create an eco-friendly cleaning agent. Once the enzyme is fully fermented in two months’ time, the children will use it to help clean their classroom, allowing them to experience how sustainable choices can be applied in everyday life.

This initiative was further enriched through our collaboration with All Saints Home, where senior residents participated in making orange enzymes, fostering intergenerational bonding while promoting environmental awareness.

As part of this project, children and parents also attended a Foodbank talk on food insecurity in Singapore. This learning experience helped broaden their understanding of food beyond consumption, encouraging them to think about the value of food, the importance of reducing waste, and how their actions can impact the wider community. Through the talk, we hope children will develop a stronger sense of social responsibility, empathy, and appreciation for the resources they have.

Following this, the N2 children took on the role of advocates by distributing posters created by the K2 children to help spread awareness about food wastage across the centre. Through this collaborative effort, the children learned that they could play an active part in influencing others and promoting environmentally responsible habits within their school community.

Through Eco-Champions in Action: Sustainability in Our Centre, our children are learning that being eco-friendly is not just about recycling or saving resources — it is about making mindful choices, showing care for the environment, and understanding how their actions can contribute to a better world.
