Mid Autumn Celebration in St. Luke Eldercare
K1 children celebrated Mid Autumn Festival in St. Luke Eldercare. They presented a dance performance to the Chinese song 月亮小兔子 (Moon and the little Bunny). The elderly clapped in rhythm to show their support.
K1 children interacted with the elderly, playing games together. The first game was ‘Ball in the Pit”. The elderly and children held the ribbons to manoeuvre the large box, bringing the plastic balls through the holes. This game provided learning opportunity to develop eye hand coordination and teamwork. The second game was to transport the plastic ball in the cup over a distance by pulling the newspaper straps. The children cheered for the elderly and encouraged them to complete the task.
In the last segment, the elderly paired up with the children to co-create the bunny lanterns by pasting the cellaphone paper of assorted colours on the bunny silhouette. K1 children were patient and took turns to glue and paste. Some children even went an extra mile to communicate with the elderly and speak in Mandarin.
Through the series of planned activities, K1 children had a meaningful intergenerational session interacting with the St. Luke elderly. They displayed the positive learning disposition of appreciation as they spent quality time interacting with the elderly in this Chinese festive, Mid Autumn festival. The children were thankful for this session as they brought many smiles to the elderly and received words of affirmation and kind gestures like mini hearts and claps. Good job, K1 children!
