Call ‘995’! – Learning to Help in an Emergency

On Wednesday, 18th June 2025, the K2 children at Skool4Kidz @ Woodlands Crescent Meadows participated in a meaningful follow-up activity titled Call ‘995’! as part of their ongoing learning about the FAST Heroes. This session aimed to help children recognise simple signs that someone—like a grandparent—might need help, and to remember that 995 is the number to call in an emergency.

During circle time, the teacher introduced key signs of a stroke in a child-friendly manner—such as a drooping face, unclear speech, or sudden weakness in the arms. The children learned that calling 995 is an important step to take when someone shows these signs and needs help quickly.

To extend this learning, the K2 children decorated their own paper phones using tearing and pasting techniques with coloured paper and markers. This hands-on craft supported their fine motor development while reinforcing the concept of having a helpful tool to care for loved ones.

Throughout the session, the children demonstrated focus, empathy, and curiosity. Some asked thoughtful questions like “What if my grandma falls down?” and “Can I call 995 too?”—showing that they were not only listening, but truly reflecting on their ability to help in real-life situations.

The Call ‘995’! activity deepened their understanding of safety and care, and helped instil a sense of responsibility at a young age. It was a meaningful step in empowering our K2 children to take action in ways that are age-appropriate, loving, and aligned with the values of our SSDB 2025 project.
