Be a FAST Hero – Learning to Help Our Loved Ones

On Thursday, 19th June 2025, the K1 children at Skool4Kidz @ Woodlands Crescent Meadows took part in an engaging and purposeful session titled Be a FAST Hero. As part of our SSDB 2025 project, this lesson introduced children to the FAST Heroes, helping them learn how to recognise signs of a stroke and how to respond if a grandparent or adult feels unwell.

In this interactive lesson, children learned what to do when someone shows signs of not feeling well. Through storytelling, discussion, movement, and role-play, they explored the meaning of the FAST acronym:

  • F for Face – checking for a drooping face,

  • A for Arms – looking for difficulty lifting both arms,

  • S for Speech – listening for slurred or strange speech,

  • T for Time – acting fast and telling a trusted adult or calling 995.

Using visual aids, simple gestures, and the FAST Heroes workbook, the children practised identifying these signs and learned that they can be heroes too by getting help quickly.

The session also included an opportunity for the children to show appreciation for their grandparents by expressing kind words, gestures, and drawings—strengthening emotional connection and gratitude.

The K1 children participated with great enthusiasm and curiosity. Many asked thoughtful questions and shared how they could help their grandparents at home. The activity helped develop their confidence, empathy, and understanding of emergency response in a way that was meaningful and age-appropriate.

Be a FAST Hero was a powerful and heartfelt lesson that helped children see themselves as capable, caring, and responsible young helpers—an inspiring moment in their SSDB 2025 journey.
