All Saints Home cum Racial Harmony Celebrations

Our Preschoolers (Playgroup to K2) from PCF Sparkletots Nee Soon Central Blk671 (DS) visited All Saints Home (Yishun) to share joy, laughter, bonding and goodies after being separated for more than two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.

This intergenerational event was organized as part of the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project called “Hearty Kindness” with the initiative to instill kindness and values in young children and to celebrate Racial Harmony Day with the elderly.

On 21st July (Friday), the preschoolers dressed in different costumes arrived at All Saints Home with excitement and anticipation. Accompanied by their teachers, the children carried bags filled with nutritious food items. Their eyes sparkled with curiosity as they entered the centre, not sure what to expect from this unique experience.

Upon arrival, the children were warmly welcomed by the elderly. Initial apprehension and shyness quickly dissolved into love and joy. The elderly wore smiles on their faces, their eyes lighting up at the sight of the young visitors, as young as 18 months old!

Children’s performances commenced with vibrant songs and dance, such as “Baby Shark”, “好宝宝“,“Top of the World”, “听我说谢谢你“,Angklung performance, “感恩的心”, “Racial Harmony Song”,“有你就幸福” and “Rasa Sayang”. While the younger children displayed adorable dance moves, the older ones sang and danced beautifully. The room was filled with joy and laughter as children’s infectious energy spread to the elderly, encouraging them to clap and sing along. Children also interacted with the elderly by playing games.

The highlight of the visit was the distribution of food donation. Children eagerly handed over bags of food donated by parents over the past week. The elderly’s eyes brimmed with tears of happiness as they received the bag filled with love and warmth.

In addition to the food donation, the preschoolers witnessed an eye-opening experience at the elderly care center. They may be too young to fully comprehend the impact of their actions, such as packing the donated food and distributing it to the elderly. However, their pure hearts and genuine efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of the elderly.

The visit was a success where children had fun and the elderly were happy to have them. It was a reminder that intergenerational interaction can benefit both young and old. It showcased the potentials of uniting generations between age groups, reinforcing the idea that kindness knows no boundaries and that caring for others is a responsibility we all share.
