On 22 April 2025, PCF Sparkletots Preschool at Toa Payoh Central, Block 79B, celebrated Earth Day with the launch of the Start Small, Dream Big (SSDB) initiative. This event aimed to raise awareness among children, teachers, and the broader community about critical environmental challenges and the importance of collective action in protecting our planet. Through a variety of engaging activities and discussions, teachers highlighted the significance of sustainability, encouraging children to develop a sense of environmental responsibility and take proactive steps towards addressing ecological issues. The parade offered an opportunity for children to showcase the crafts they had created at home in collaboration with their parents. A variety of crafts made from recyclable materials were presented by the children outside the school premises, highlighting their creativity. As they paraded together with their teachers, they prominently displayed a banner that read: βTogether for Tomorrow: Empowering Young Hearts.β This event not only showcased artistic skills but also promoted the importance of sustainability and community engagement among the students.

Teachers created an engaging and memorable Earth Day celebration through a series of fun games designed to foster awareness and appreciation for the environment. The children had the opportunity to sort recyclable objects by aiming or dropping them into the correct boxes, which not only made learning enjoyable but also reinforced important concepts about recycling. The Early Years children enhanced their experience by walking along a colourful sensory path before participating in the recycling activities, which added an enriching element to the event. Overall, the enthusiastic participation from all the children highlighted their eagerness to contribute positively to the planet, making the occasion both impactful and delightful.

This collaboration empowers teachers to enhance childrenβs understanding and awareness of Down Syndrome through activities and informative sessions. The school is dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment where students can recognise and appreciate the diverse abilities of individuals with Down Syndrome. This initiative fosters empathy and inclusivity, paving the way for a supportive community where friendships can flourish and the value of diversity is celebrated. Before the event, the children decorated boxes for the donation drive. Each class created colourful and uniquely designed boxes. The school collaborated with parents and guardians for this initiative, who generously contributed food, clothing, and other necessities to support the Down Syndrome Association. Even neighbours from the surrounding area participated by dropping off donations in the boxes. These simple acts reflected the SSDB theme, βTogether for Tomorrow.β When everyone works together, anything is possible, and we empower the younger generation to take similar actions in the future.

Ms Sulyanna from the Down Syndrome Association visited our school to share the associationβs essential mission of raising awareness about children with Down syndrome. She provided valuable insights on how to interact with them thoughtfully and respectfully. The children actively participated and enjoyed singing along to a song prepared by Ms Sulyanna. This experience offered an excellent opportunity for everyone to reflect on the importance of treating each person with fairness and understanding, recognising that our differences make us unique and enrich our community.
