Trip to The Animal Classroom @ Jacob Ballas Childrens' Garden🐱🐰 (Launch Party)

For our ‘Start Small, Dream Big’ project this year, the children were interested in lending a helping hand to the pets in our community.

“I like Ginger! He’s so cute! Is Ginger still injured?”

To kickstart the project, the children listened to the story ‘A Present for Ginger’ by NParks. Their expressions show wonder and reflection, as if imagining themselves taking care of their own pets at home. Through the story about Ginger the cat, children slowly began to understand kindness, responsibility, and the importance of caring for small animals/pets around us.

The children had the enriching opportunity to participate in an educational workshop focused on pet care and animal welfare. Through a mix of presentations, hands-on activities, and real-life interactions with animals, the children not only learned essential facts about pets but also developed empathy, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for small animals.

“I’m so excited to see the animals and also Ginger! Do you think we can see Ginger?”

During the session, the children listened attentively to a presentation about what pets need to be happy and healthy. The words on the screen were simple, but their meaning carried great weight. As the teacher explained that animals, too, need love, food, and care, the children’s faces showed genuine understanding. It was heartwarming to see how such young learners could connect empathy with action.

The most meaningful part came when the children interacted directly with the animals. They approached the rabbits and guinea pigs carefully, guided by patience and gentle hands. Some children were hesitant at first, but soon, their smiles grew as they learned to feed and comfort the animals. The children were also glad to see Ginger being healthier than ever. These small gestures revealed something much greater — the development of compassion and responsibility through experience.

“So cute! What do the rabbits and guinea pigs eat?”

Reflecting on this day, we realize that it is not just about caring for pets, but also about nurturing kindness and respect for all living things. The children were seen being thoughtful, gentle, and understanding towards all the pets/small animals. This experience reminded us that it is important to build empathy towards all, one small act of care at a time! 🐱🐰🐶🩷
