Superheroes Caring For The Environment: Family Day Carnival

Having discussed with our children over the past couple of months about being superheroes caring for the environment, here are some suggestions they gave:

“We should plant more trees!”

“Make posters and put it outside school.”

“We should go plant and then we can sell them. Then when we have money we can help the environment.”

Taking all their suggestions into consideration, we decided to hold a Family Day Carnival to raise funds on the 7th of July 2018, Saturday.

At our Family Day Carnival we had..

  • GIFTS & NOVELTIES

Plenty of gifts to look out for! We had greeting cards and sugar scrubs made by our children, homemade papaya jam, dried blue pea flowers in mason jars, mini potted plants, playdough, shoulder tote bags, and magic enzymes made by Toh Yi Community Garden.

  • FACE PAINTING, POPCORN, BALLOON SCULPTING

What’s a carnival without face paint, popcorn, and balloons?! Our visitors had a blast visiting these booths.

  • LIVE STATION 1: PLAYDOUGH POWER

Homemade playdough made by our teachers and children were a great hit at our live station, so much so that the playdough sold out! Children loved manipulating and coming with plenty of creations!

  • LIVE STATION 2: COLOURING CHANGING TEA

Ever heard of colour changing tea? A trip to our community gardens introduced us to the blue pea flower which changes colour when combined with anything acidic. Children who visited this station had the opportunity to make their own blue pea tea and observed the colour change by adding in some lime, followed by a little honey for taste.

  • LIVE STATION 3: GARDENING WORKSHOP

With our Community In Bloom district manager teaching us all about stem cutting, and our friends from Toh Yi Community Garden teaching us about self-irrigating plants, we thought we should share our knowledge with everyone.

So at our gardening workshop, our teachers conducted a workshop on self-irrigating plants using the Indian Borage plant which we have been growing in our school!
