SSDB Launch Event 2021: Befriending the Migrant Workers around our Neighbourhood

This year, our little N2’s from E-Bridge Preschool (Montreal Link) were delighted to embarked on a Start Small Dream Big Project 2021. We kicked off our project by discussing news from multiple articles in Singapore. Throughout this research process, the children shows their concern and feelings towards news related to the migrant workers. Questions such as “Why the construction workers dorm small?” and “Where are their mom and dad?” were posed during the discussion. As a class, we decided to dedicate this project to the migrant workers in Singapore.

Together, we came up with our project title: “Migrant Workers, You Can Count On Me!”. The children were intrigued to find out more about their nature of work and their stories. Hence we extend our interest further by befriending a migrant worker around the neighbourhood. They discovered that their worksite are risky and hazardous. They also empathise with the sharing that their families living abroad and how much the migrant workers missed them.

In preparing our N2 class for the SSDB launch event on 22 April 2021, we discussed and agreed upon creating a banner and preparing a special performance specially for the migrant workers. We practiced the dance steps diligently and cooperate as a class in creating a banner specially for the event.

On the day of the launch, we invited parents along with us through video session to launch our project officially. With much eagerness and enthusiasm, we performed a dance alongside a song title: “Making a difference by Obie leff” which can be view on the link below:

We finally conclude our event with a symbolic pledge, hoping that it will serves as a reminder for us to continuously practice kindness and compassion towards our community not only during the project period but also in a long run.
