SSDB 2023: JOY OF GIVING! [Appreciating Migrant Workers]

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Our K1 children embarked on the SSDB jouney by participating in the project titled, ‘JOY OF GIVING’. Through this project children got to appreciate and extend their heartfelt gratitude to our targetted beneficiaries, the migrant workers. In this spirit of giving back, we organized a heartwarming donation drive, encouraging our preschool children and their parents to participate actively. The objective of the drive was to collect used/new essential items, as well as clothes and cutleries, to support the migrant workers who have been tolling hard. Overall, this project shaped children’s individual values and allowed them to become more compassionate, generous, and responsible members of their communities.

INTRODUCTION OF PROJECT & MAKING OF SSDB BANNER

SSDB LAUNCH WITH PARENTS

We launched our SSDB Project with our parents on the 29th April 2023, during our centre’s tea session. Parents were briefed about the project their child was embarking on and participated in the launch by printing the iconic SSDB orange palm on the banner the children made!

MAKING OF WISHLIST OF ITEMS

We partnered with ‘Its Raining Raincoats’, a Non-profit organisation which sees over the well being of migrant workers in Singapore. Children made a wishlist of items they wished to donate to our beneficiaries. They thought about the needs and wants of the migrant workers, especially items that would be needed for everyday use.

CHILDREN’S AND STAFFS’ DONATION

SORTING AND PACKING THE DONATIONS

As donations poured in, the children were actively involved in sorting and categorizing the items. This activity provided an opportunity to teach them about organizing and teamwork, while packing the different types of essentials needed by migrant workers!

MAKING OF HANDCRAFTS

Children also created some photoframes for our beneficiaries to attach their family photos, which conveyed messages of motivation and strength. Children wrote the words, ‘My Family!’ in Bangla and Tamil. This added a special touch, making the gifts more heartfelt and meaningful, as our beneficiaries regard their families as their encouragement, to strive better in this country.

PACKING OF GOODIE BAGS

Children packed some essential items in goodie bags, that were meant for the workers!

COMPLETION OF SSDB PROJECT

It was such a lovely experience meeting and delivering the items to the migrant workers. They were so thankful and thrilled with the donations. The essential items donation drive was a heartwarming success! By focusing on supporting vulnerable migrant workers, these young children demonstrated that even at an early age, they can be instrumental in making a positive impact on the lives of others. The initiative not only brought the preschool community together but also highlighted the importance of showing compassion and empathy to those in need. Through such efforts, we strive to create a generation that actively contributes to building a more caring and inclusive society for all!
