'Rescue Buddies: A Caring World for Pets'đŸ±đŸ©· (Part 2 Finale - Donation Drive for SPCA)

The day is finally here! The children participated actively in the preparation for the donation drive and were eager to show their family!

Children, together with their parents and helpers, gathered around colorful tables covered with paper, markers, pipe cleaners, and feathers — ready to transform simple materials into something extraordinary. But today’s activity was not just about crafting. It was about caring. Every pet toy and creation made during this special session would soon bring comfort and joy to animals in need, as part of the school’s donation drive for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and The Animal Classroom (Jacob Ballas Childrens’ Garden).

“Mummy look! This toy is for us to play with the cats!”

As the session began, the children’s eyes sparkled with excitement. Some were busy cutting cardboard shapes, while others carefully twisted pipe cleaners or tied bright feathers to create homemade pet toys. Beside them, parents watched, guided, and joined in with gentle smiles and encouraging words. The classroom buzzed with teamwork — a beautiful blend of young curiosity and nurturing guidance. Together, they were not only making toys but also building empathy, understanding, and a sense of responsibility toward small animals.

“I painted a colourful bird and these are the toys for the bird!”, “I painted a rabbit! This one is the house for the rabbit to rest.”

This initiative provided a meaningful way for children to experience the joy of giving. As they played, painted, and decorated, they also began to talk about the small animals their toys would soon help — the cats at The Animal Classroom (Jacob Ballas Childrens’ Garden) who needed care, comfort, and love. Through this conversations with their parents and teachers, they learned that compassion can be expressed through action, and that even small efforts can make a big difference.

The presence of parents added an even deeper layer of connection. As they collaborated with their children, they modeled the very compassion and kindness the activity aimed to teach. It became clear that the lesson was not just about creating a pet toy, but about building a bridge between generations — showing that caring for others, whether human or animal, begins with understanding and empathy.

As the tables filled with colorful handmade pet toys, a sense of pride and purpose filled the room. Every piece represented more than just creativity; it reflected the heart and intention of the makers. The children’s smiles as they looked at their completed pet toys told a story of joy — not the joy of receiving, but of giving.

At KidsCampus West Coast, we would like to say a BIG thank you to everybody who has participated and contributed to the donation drive! We hope that this year’s SSDB project has given the children an opportunity to use their hands and hearts for a good cause.

Sometimes, the most meaningful impact begins in the smallest moments — in a child’s laughter, a parent’s helping hand, and a handmade toy created with care for an animal who needs it.đŸ¶đŸ±đŸ°đŸ©·
