Kickstarting ‘A Kinder Future Begins With Me’

Our centre’s Start Small Dream Big Project this year focuses on the sustainability efforts to Care for and take Responsibility for our environment. We have decided on the theme of ‘A kinder future begins with me’ with a series of activities planned for our children to play a positive part to our planet. To kickstart the project, we headed to the Tampines Changkat Butterfly Garden and helped to clean up the space by picking up litter that was found there. The date chosen- 5th June was also the World Environment Day. 🌎❤️

Equipped with their hats, we took a short walk from our centre to the Tampines Changkat Butterfly Garden a few minutes away.

Prepped and ready to go! 💪🏻

The children’s eyes got to work right when we arrived. They started letting the teachers know of the litter that they noticed as they scanned the environment. Before they got to work, everyone got ready by putting on their gloves. Some of the common litter that they found in the area included food wrappers, masks and cigarette butts.

After the clean up, the children took a short break on the swings located at the garden before we headed back to the centre!

An Unexpected Encounter 🙌🏻✨

On the way back after playing our part in Caring for our environment, we saw some upcycled MRT seats that were made into benches in the community to reduce waste, as part of Tampines Town Council’s efforts in reducing landfill waste. This provided an opportunity for the children to reflect and think about the endless ways we can play a part- big or small in our own ways to protect our planet Earth.
