Our childcare centre was filled with Hari Raya joy and beautiful decorations. The little ones came dressed in their colourful traditional outfits, such as Baju Kurung and Baju Melayu, creating a festive atmosphere, while others will be in party clothes. Everyone was excited and feeling happy, flaunting their clothes to their peers.
The children were introduced to the meaning of Hari Raya simply and engagingly. They learned about kindness, forgiveness, and spending time with loved ones. Together, we practised greeting one another with “Selamat Hari Raya” and shared smiles with our friends and with the teachers too.
Throughout the celebration, the children took part in fun and meaningful activities. They enjoyed creating Hari Raya crafts, listening to festive stories, singing along to the most popular songs they had heard before, dancing to the music, and participating in a kueh tasting session where they explored different traditional treats. These activities helped to build their creativity, social skills, and appreciation for different cultures.
There were also moments of sharing, where children talked about how they celebrate Hari Raya with their families. They do share some experiences, especially the higher level, that during Hari Raya, they need to go to the mosque for prayers and thereafter seek forgiveness with family. It was heart-warming to see them express themselves confidently and listen to one another.
This celebration provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience cultural traditions in a fun and meaningful way, while learning the values of sharing, respect, and togetherness.
