A Little Something Project

“Everyone can contribute a little something to make the world a better place”

Our K2 Patience children started the year by exploring the theme of “Public Places”. Children got the opportunity to identify the different public places that they can visit. They discussed the roles of thedifferent community helpers, who contribute their part to make the public places safe, clean and fun!

As they explored on the topic, the children recognised how privileged and blessed they are to enjoy all these facilities around them. This is especially so when they looked into the current issues at is happening around them. They notified that there are a group of individuals who may not have the financial capability to enjoy the different facilities around them.

Therefore, they embarked on the project titled “A little something”. The aim of the project is to bring awareness on how a little action can make a world difference to the people and places around them.

Through the different enquiry discussion, the children looked at three different current issues.

1. The foreign workers

Through a video clip, the children understand that a foreign worker is not well paid. Hence, they may not have sufficient money to purchase essential items, such as food, toothpaste or soap.

2. The elderly

The children observed the living condition of many elderly and noticed that some of them are living in a small flat. As they are in their old-age, some may not have the capablilty to go out to work. In addition, some do not have their family members beside them to care for them, prepare the necessity and food.

3. The homeless

Lastly, the children noticed that there is a group of individuals who do not have the money to purchase or rent a flat by themselves. Some have to resort by staying in the street. Children shared about how it could be really difficult for them especially in the midst of Covid-19 situation.

As a result, the children brainstormed on some ideas to extend their help to these individuals. The K2s decided to run a donation drive! They hope to collect a sum of money where they can provide essential items, such as daily necessity and food to these individuals.

The donation drive happened on 10th - 11th March 2021. We were so moved by the generosity of the parents and children from MindChamps Preschool @ Junction 10! With all the contribution, we were able to raise a total of $1864.80!

We then partnered with 2 community organizations.

1. Hope for Meals

With the amount that we gathered, we purchase 120 packed lunch for the elderly. Our K2s also got the opportunity to experience their first volunteer work! Children were full of excitement, as they go from door to door to send the packed lunch for the elderly!

2. Hope Initiative Alliance

Our Champs also helped to pack 150 care packs for the homeless individuals. We purchased all the essential items, such as shampoo, soap, hand sanitiser, mask, toothpaste and snacks!

While the project has come to an end, the K2 Champs would like to continue this giving spirit. We hope that this movement would inspire everyone to contribute their little act of kindness.

Spread love everywhere you go, let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.
