Where does food come from? - Planting shallots at home and growing vegetables at school

After learning more about farmers and what they do, children went on to become little farmers to experience the life of farming. We decided that a good way to do this would be to plant some vegetables and plants together! Both K1 and K2 children planted Radish, Amaranth and Pea Shoots. We had to prepare a space for the vegetables to grow. We took some styrofoam boxes, made some holes at the bottom, added soil and planted our seeds in it. To ensure the plants grow well, we watered it daily and plucked out any dying leaves.

Alongside this, we invited parents to join us in our SSDB journey by planting shallots with the children. Each child was given a planting kit consisting of soil, a flower pot and a shallot. The children brought their shallots home for a week and got to see it grow! Back in school, they shared their planting journey with each other and also reflected it down in their reflection book. Both K1 and K2 agreed that taking care of a plant is a tedious job.
