On 8 July 2025, as part of our Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) journey, the Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 children from M.Y World@Compassvale Ancilla participated in a heartwarming intergenerational activity with 21 seniors from Precious Active Ageing Centre. Titled “Treasure with Trash,” the session aimed to promote sustainability and strengthen bonds between the young and the elderly.
Teacher Kina opened the session by sharing the purpose of the activity, which was to create pencil holders using recycled materials while spending meaningful time together. Seated in small mixed-age groups of 4 to 5 seniors and 8 to 10 children at each table, participants worked side by side, cutting, pasting, decorating, and most importantly, connecting with one another through smiles and conversation.
Over 30 minutes, the shared experience fostered mutual learning, care, and laughter. The children not only learnt how simple items could be turned into something useful but also gained respect and appreciation for their elderly friends.
To conclude the morning, the children came together to sing “Save the Planet”, a heartfelt performance that reminded everyone of the importance of caring for our Earth and for each other.
This activity beautifully reflected the spirit of “Little Hands, Big Change”, showing how even the smallest hands, when guided with love and purpose, can make a meaningful difference.
