TOUCH Child Care (Hougang & Clementi) SSDB 2019 Launch Party - Gardens by the Bay

In line with our Nation’s commemoration of the bicentennial year this year, TOUCH Child Care (Hougang & Clementi) has themed our SSDB project as “Singapore, My Home, My Future”.

It is our desire that as we educate our children about our past through this project, they will come to appreciate our present and honour our elderly who made good our present. As such, what better way to launch this project than to organise an outing to Gardens by the Bay with the elderly!

Our Launch Party took place on 18/4 (Thurs). Accompanied by 9 teachers and 2 staff from TOUCH Senior Activity Centre (TSAC), 37 K2 children from both TOUCH Child Care (Hougang & Clementi) visited Gardens by the Bay with 40 elderly from TSAC (Geylang Bahru).

The day started with much excitement buzzing in the air as our children awaited the arrival of the elderly at Gardens By the Bay. They met for the first time, exchanging warm radiant smiles. Our children served the elderly curry puffs for breakfast.

Next, the children and elderly engaged in a HAPPY session conducted by the staff from TOUCH Senior Activity Centre as a warm up for the body and mind. It was a time filled with fun and laughter from all.

HAPPY refers to Healthy Ageing Promotion Programme for You, a locally designed research-based programme with engaging activities that involves listening, motor skills, mind power to help seniors delay frailty and disability.

All in a happy mood after the HAPPY session, the children were paired up with the elderly and they set up to tour both the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest hand in hand.

As the outing came to an end, the children presented the elderly with their gift of a Cactus Massaging stick and said their goodbyes with hugs. It was indeed a meaningful time spent together.

With such a promising start to our SSDB 2019 project, we are looking forward to a meaningful journey with our children as they learn from their past and care and dream for the future.
