[SSDB 2025] Trash to Treasure: Caring for Creatures with Creativity (Phase 1 - SSDB Launch Party)

To kick off our SSDB project, children were introduced to the theme “Trash to Treasure – Caring for Creatures with Creativity.” This first phase aimed to help children understand how pollution and waste harm wildlife, and to inspire them to take small but meaningful actions to care for animals and the environment.

📽 Introduction to Pollution & Wildlife Conservation

Children were shown real images and videos of how pollution—especially plastic waste—harms animals like sea turtles, birds, and forest creatures. These visual stories helped them connect with the urgent need to protect wildlife and keep our environment clean.

📚 Storytime & Discussion

Through an engaging book about animals affected by pollution, children learned how their daily choices can make a difference. They shared thoughtful ideas on how they can help at home and in school.

🗑 Wildlife Rescue Sorting Challenge

In a hands-on sorting game, children became “wildlife rescuers”! Guided by a story scenario, they sorted picture cards of common waste items into the correct bins (plastic/ paper/ metal/ non-recyclables). This activity sparked meaningful discussions on how proper waste disposal protects animals from harm. The children consolidated their learning through completing a worksheet, identifying and colouring items that do not belong in the ocean.

This launch phase sparked curiosity, compassion, and creativity, setting the tone for the next stages of our Trash to Treasure journey!
