SSDB 2020 New recycled pots for growing vegetables.

To help the vegetable scraps germinated by the Toddler and N1 classes flourish, the children of K1 jumped right in to ensure that the needs of the garden were well met. From watering the budding plants to ensuring that there was enough cotton in all the recycled holders, the K1s were dedicated in their support for the Centre’s SSDB project.

Caring for the garden provided a great opportunity for the children to observe new buds and shoots sprouting from the remnants of old vegetables. They were fascinated by Nature’s renewal processes and were eager to aid in the further growth of these flourishing plants.

To that end, the classes decided that sturdier pots should be made. Research was done into which type of recycled planters would be best for our vegetables, with the children settling on the self-watering pot that could be made from recycling large round or square soda bottles. The Centre tapped on our home-based partners once more with great results, allowing the K1s to get to work on their planters immediately. Sticky tape and paints added a personalized touch and our new pots were good to go!
