SSDB 2019 "Garden of creativity" - Barter Trade Art Exhibition

Children pledged to plant as they learnt on the importance of plants to the Earth.

In our school garden, each class were given a space to grow their own plants. The children visited the garden weekly for their outdoor learning. Besides learning on the basic steps of planting seeds and watering their plants, the children also explored using their senses, as they observed the different types of plants that have grown - from flowering plants to plants that is a source of food such as the pandan and curry leaves.

Parents played a part in this project by contributing gardening supplies. In collaboration with the school’s Art committee, children created various artworks inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama - Dots.

On 16th August 2019, parents were invited to our garden, where we had a ‘Barter Trade Art Exhibition’. Many parents came forward to purchase artworks in exchange of gardening supplies such as seeds, soil, spades and watering cans.

It was indeed a great effort by children, teachers and parents to make this a successful event. It has been an enjoyable journey for all and we hope we can continue to build up our garden for a fruitful learning experience for the children.
