Recycling Comes From You and Me

The nursery children embarked on a project called ‘Recyling Comes From You and Me’. We started the campaign by distributing pamphlets to the neighbourhood, informing them about the project we are embarking. Through this project, we hope it will encourage each household to play a part by donating recycled items to the school.

On 21 April 2017, the nursery children, teachers and parents volunteers made our way to the different floors of each block to collect the items. We were delighted to receive to warm responses from the neighbours.

This aims to educate children the importance of recycling and the joy of using recycled materials to do craftwork. We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to the different households who shown their support in donating the recycled items, and the parent volunteers who took time out of their busy schedule to join us for the collection :)

After the collection, the children were also taught to differentiate several types of materials and to sort it into different types of recycling bins.

After several days of discussions, the children started to use recycled materials to create their craftwork. Some parent volunteers assisted children with the craftwork. The handmade craftwork will be sold during our ‘Family Day’ event.

After months of preparations, we had our ‘Family Day’ event (in the spirit of giving) on 4 August 2017. ActiveSG was invited to our school to encourage both students and family members to practice a healthy lifestyle for all  to spend quality time together. The K1s and K2s also played a part in using recycled materials to create craftwork for selling. The proceeds from the sales was donated to AWWA Elderly Care.

We are grateful that the event served as a platform for children to know the importance of helping those in need and the joy of using recycled materials for their craftwork. We would also like to express our gratitude to everyone who helped out in one way or another. Without them, the event would not have been a success.
