MyFirstSkool at 3 Pasir Ris Drive - SSDB Launch Party: Appreciating Our Grandparents & Elders

Our centre officially embarked on our very first Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project with the heartwarming theme “Grandparents and Elders.” We launched the project on 15th May 2025 with the aim of nurturing empathy, love, and appreciation for the elderly among our young learners.

To begin, we introduced the theme through a simple slideshow that helped children understand the roles of grandparents and elders and the important roles they play in families and communities. The visuals prompted meaningful conversations, with many children eagerly sharing stories about their own grandparents.

Next, we watched the Start Small Dream Big 10th Anniversary Video, which provided children with a broader understanding of the initiative and inspired them to think about how they, too, can contribute to caring for and honouring the elderly.

To build excitement and unity, the children took part in a mass sing-and-dance session to the cheerful SSDB song, which filled the room with joy and laughter.

To end the session meaningfully, we held a storytelling session featuring the book Newspaper Hats by Phil Cummings. The story tells of a young girl visiting her grandfather in a care home, where he no longer remembers her but still shares special moments making paper hats together. This touching tale beautifully highlights the themes of love, memory, and connection across generations, making it a fitting and impactful conclusion to our launch activities.

As an ongoing feature of the project, we have also set up an Appreciation Wall at our lift lobby. This interactive display invites children to share their own stories and experiences with their grandparents with their friends. We hope it will spark warm conversations among the children and help them celebrate the special bonds they have with their grandparents.
