My Jolly Educare: organic foods that can be used in ZERO waste intiatives

The Kindergarten children embarked on a scanvenger hunt to find as many vegetable and fruits in our community garden in Sunbird Circle. They were in groups lead by their teachers with clipboards and checklists to follow. The children also had to identify if these fruits or vegetables grew in the ground, in the trees, vines or bushes.

The Kindergarten children were so thrilled to see so many fruits and vegetables. Some of them even identified items that were not in the checklist. This activity makes use of their sense of wonder and curiousity with the nature around them. A great way for them to appreciate the food that is grown by the hands of our community.

The teachers went through with the children why it is better to choose organic alternatives in our diets to prevent high food waste in our landfills. The children reviewed their checklist and discussed which food items they have eaten before and which ones they have not tried. The children were keen to share their findings with their parents as well as they brought their written report home!
