LV@CA Kindness through the Happy and Sad Plant Experiment

The N2s integrated the concept of kindness in the overall topic on Gardening. Drawing on the idea of a viral video on social media, the children propagated and potted two sets pf money plant using the same soil medium and watered both pots fairly.

One pot was labelled with a smiley face to represent the “Happy” plant, and the other with a sad face to represent the “Sad” plant. Weekly, the children took turns to speak to the plants. The only spoke good, kind words and phrases to the plant with the happy face, and spoke mean, unfriendly words and phrases to the plant with the sad face.

A few weeks later, this happened.

A leave on the sad plant started to wither and turn black, while the other leaf went limp. The happy plant still remained green and healthy

The children learnt that like the plant, speaking good words helps lift each other up, while speaking mean words may hurt another person. It was a good experiment and the children were able to share their experience with the K1s and K2s during a cross-level sharing session.

Good job, kiddos!
